Army Brat

Growing up as a military kid is different than other kids.  It taught me many things that I might not have learned if I were not the son of a soldier.

We moved a lot.  On the positive side, I lived in and traveled to a lot of places in our country.  If my Dad had a non-military job, I probably would not have gone to some of these places.  On the negative side, I attended three different elementary schools before I was in the 5th grade.  It is hard to always be the new kid and start over in a new school.

My Dad was deployed a lot.  He was gone for yearlong tours in Iraq and Korea.  I am the oldest child in our household.  My Dad would always tell me that I had an important job while he was away.  I was the man of the house.  I helped my Mom with stuff around the house and kept an eye on my younger brother, which wasn’t an easy job.

I think growing up as a military child taught me responsibility and to appreciate your family.  I am proud to be called an Army Brat.
