I'm not really sure what to write about this time around, so I'll just muse a bit about the huge leap I am planning on making next year. I have been in the military for over 10 years; I joined shortly after the horrific events of 9/11 and I've been proudly serving my country since. My career choice has taken me all over the world, and I have experienced many things (good and bad) that have shaped me as a person. But things are changing. Now that the wars are winding down, the Army is becoming a different place. We are beginning to see the return of the "garrison military", where bureaucracy rules and leaders are more worried about appearance of uniform and proper memorandum formats then the mission we are still expected to accomplish. This troubling trend, along with the problems of our current administration, has led me to the decision to leave the military.
Although I love my job and the people that I work with (most of them anyways), I am tired of the constant deployments and the uncertain schedules. I am ready to settle down in a nice place and work toward my goal of attending medical school. I have a little over a year left before I can take my first step on this journey, and I can't wait.
Henry,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your thoughts about your decision to leave the military. I can definitely relate. Moving around for the last ten years of my life has left me with the same desire to settle into a nice, quiet place for a little while. The last two years has been this way, and I can tell you that I do not miss the military life at all. Good luck to you!
Henry,
ReplyDeleteI thank you for the time you served. Good luck with medical school.
